Hydro-seeding

Hydro-seeding is a process using a mixture of the best seed available combined with fiber mulch and a starter fertilizer, which is sprayed onto your prepared area.

The seed we use is bred for improved seedling vigor, dark green color, disease resistance, drought tolerance and more.

Initial Care

The most important factor you need to monitor is soil moisture after your lawn is hydro-seeded. The use of fiber mulch helps to hold moisture, but it is up to you to keep the new lawn moist at all times. For best results, you should soak the entire lawn thirty minutes twice a day for the first few weeks. After a few weeks, you can reduce the frequency to once a day. Established lawns should be watered in the early morning to reduce disease and minimize evaporation.

Maintenance

The first mowing should be when the new grass reaches 3 inches in height.

It is important for the health of the grass to use a sharp blade. As your lawn matures, it is best to maintain it at a height of 3-4 inches. Cutting the lawn too short increases weed pressure. It is best to cut only one third of the length each time you cut. During the growing season this will mean frequent mowing for best lawn health.

A mild fertilizer was applied with the hydro-seeding to help the young seedlings get a healthy start. An application of a new seedling fertilizer, such as a 14-28-15 should be applied 3-4 weeks after the initial seeding. This analysis is high in phosphate to encourage root development.

Weeds are inevitable in a new lawn. Weed control products should not be applied until the new lawn has been mowed at least 3 times. The weeds can be controlled with a liquid spray or with a granular weed and feed product. It will probably take more than one application to get the weeds under control.

Regular fertilization throughout the year is very important to the health of your new lawn. A lawn that is fed 4 or 5 times a year is more likely to stay weed and disease free. Proper pH levels will also reduce the incidence of weeds and allow the fertilizer to work better. Your local garden center should be able to supply you with the proper products and information. The Extension Service is also available as a source of information.

R-N-L Enterprises will provide you with the best start possible for your new lawn. Abundant moisture after seeding is the most important factor for success. With proper maintenance your lawn will be beautiful for years to come.
